HURRICANE SANDY

The major container terminals at the Port of New York & New Jersey are open as reported by the Port Authority of NY/NJ :

This exceptional situation is recognized as a “force majeure” which has led carriers to discharge some containers in other safer ports like Norfolk or Baltimore. They did so last week anticipating  hurricane Sandy to protect cargoes. Some carriers are still skipping New York/Newark because of the current congestion. Because it is “force majeure”, the carriers are not responsible for the extra-charges that may occur in case of diversion of cargo to alternate ports.
